Markus Masaites embarked upon his musical journey at the age of 6 years old. 13 Years later, he now studies at the University of British Columbia School of Music with Dr. Corey Hamm. Some of his accomplishments to date include placing 1st twice at the Provincial Festival of the Arts (2014, 2015), placing 1st at the BC Registered Music Teachers’ Association Provincial Competition (2016), and most notably, receiving the Gold Medal for the highest ARCT exam mark in Canada for the year 2016 with a mark of 96%. During the summers, Markus has attended music camps such as Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg, European Music Institute Vienna, Perugia Musicfest and Morningside Music Bridge where he was able to work with esteemed teachers such as Dominique Merlet, Milana Chernyavska, Ilana Vered, John Perry, Stefan Lemelin, Murray McLachlan and Stéphan Sylvestre. Today, Markus is completing his second year in UBC’s Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance Program. Outside of the practice room, (a rare occurrence), Markus can’t get enough of skiing, coffee and petting his cats.
